ADHD Therapy in Austin, TX
As a person with ADHD, I deeply understand the unique challenges and strengths that come with this diagnosis. It is this personal experience that fuels my passion for helping others with similar lived experiences. Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) can affect all aspects of your life – school, relationships, work – but with the right structure and support, you can manage your ADHD effectively and feel like the most empowered version of yourself.
Living with ADHD
“The day got away from me… I forgot to show up to a meeting… I’ll just do it tomorrow… Why is everything so much easier for everyone else? How could you not remember?”
It’s taxing to live in a state of stress all the time. The constant self-comparison to others leaves you as your own worst bully. You’re either stuck in a paralyzing shame spiral, or in an overdrive of perfectionism just to try and keep up with everyone else. If you don’t push yourself hard, you may make another mistake, or fall off your routine, or upset your partner.
How ADHD Therapy Can Help
Developing a new relationship with ADHD is how my clients have gone from feeling overwhelmed to practicing the coping strategies that work. I know from experience that truly understanding ADHD – what it is and what it’s not – can be the key to shedding shame and making room for real self-love.
I help adults living with ADHD:
- Understand your diagnosis
- Develop strategies to improve focus, organization, and communication
- Improve social and romantic relationships
- Emotional regulation
- Balancing excitement about interests with scheduling
- Self-esteem
When I was diagnosed with ADHD, no one took the time to explain what it really was. This left me feeling alone, and believing that I was actually just stupid. That’s why I always start with discussing how ADHD shows up in your life. Learning the neuroscience behind it can offer the incredible relief of knowing it’s not that you aren’t trying hard enough. You can let go of any limiting self-belief, and adopt the mindset that you haven’t been operating in alignment with how your brain functions – until now.
In our work together, we’ll develop ADHD management strategies that are customized to you. We’ll simultaneously tackle the shame, anxiety, and depression that can often occur with ADHD and stunt our ability to help ourselves. This is a critical step to your transformation. Overly-identifying with a label or a diagnosis leaves little room to make change. We train ourselves to believe the chaos is beyond control – “I’m lazy, I’m disorganized, I don’t have a good work ethic.” Life feels like it’s hopelessly happening to us. Using a humanistic approach based in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Compassion-Based Therapy, and Internal Family Systems, you’ll learn to be the director of your ADHD instead of the other way around.
Not only that, I’ll help you identify and celebrate your superpowers, such as your contagious excitable energy, creativity, and out-of-the-box thinking that leads to innovative solutions. Once you dive into a subject, your hyperfixation gives you the laser focus to truly understand it. You radiate a certain joie de vivre that allows you to follow what feels good in life.
Let's start building the systems you need to thrive with ADHD therapy - available in-person in my downtown Austin office, or virtually from the comfort of your home.
ADHD & Relationships
In relationships with an ADHD partner, the first step is to accept the framework that the ADHD is not the problem. When you learn to work with the diagnosis instead of against it, then you can harness the advantages and joy of ADHD, or having a partner with it. Sound unrealistic? I will teach you how to combat shame, guilt, and to resolve the cyclical gridlock arguments about forgetfulness, organizational skills, and reciprocal effort.
Autism & Relationships
When it comes to Autism and relationships, common challenges tend to be: communication misinterpretations, arguments about quality time, unexpected outburts of big emotions, and overwhelm with navigating sex. I’ll equip you with strategies and tools that support each partner’s way of thinking, and leave your nervous systems feeling safe to be in their full authenticity.
Embrace Your Superpower
In our work together, my hope is to help you love this part of yourself because these traits are what make you really, really great.
